Two new categories will feature in this year’s TMS Awards. One will recognise Exemplary Performance during Covid-19 while the other will honour the Bulk Shipping Company of the Year.
Clive Woodbridge, TMS editor and chair of judges, says “During the COVID-19 pandemic maritime companies active in shipping, ports, ship agency, and many other sectors, have been in the front line, going the extra mile to ensure that economies keep functioning and the public receives essential goods and supplies. We decided we wanted to present an extra special Award this year in recognition of that contribution.”
The new Award will go to the company, or group of employees, who in the opinion of the judges have made the most exceptional contribution to overcoming the challenges presented by Covid -19. This could be by introducing innovative solutions, new ways of working or introducing and harnessing new technology onboard or ashore, to keep supply chains moving and employees and customers safe. Or exceptional commitment and dedication to public service could be demonstrated.”
The Bulk Shipping Company of the Year award reflects the growing importance of the dry bulk sector in the region. Clive says, “The region has traditionally been particularly significant for tanker and container liner shipping, but there has been a lot of activity of late in the dry bulk sector. The award will look to find the ‘best of the best’ in this segment and fills a gap in the portfolio of awards we present.”
